Artist Profile and Song; Tom Tripp - "Dreamsville"

Artist Profile
Artist Name: Tom Tripp
Age: 17
Genre: Hip Hop, Rap, Underground
Music productions: "Are you ready", "Girls", "Dreamsville"

Song selected: "Dreamsville"

For A2 media studies, my project was to construct a music video. I worked in a group of four to come up with a specific genre that we could all work comfortably in. We decided "Hip Hop" was our common interest and as a result we had to bring in potential artist work that we could form a music video upon.

The end result was a positive conclusion of which we would be using the track named "Dreamsville" by an artist named Tom Tripp.

      Peer Feedback

Areas of Strength for the track and artist:
  • Song affiliates with happiness, optimism and positivity.
  • Can be either a narrative or a performance based video (More chance of diversification)
  • Allows use of animation due to the narrative sections of the lyrics.
  • Can be used to oppose stereotypes and common ideology of Hip Hop and black males, as there mainly positive messages and lacks explicit and vulgar material.
Areas of consideration that need to be taken on board:
  • It is essential that the performer must be confident in his act to create an impact on the viewer.
  • Possible use of additional performers
  • The music video should be able to give the viewer a positive image and make them feel good.
  • Not many negative or depressing themes in the video, which may cause an over use of positive screenplay,  that can decrease the chances of diverse shots and angles.
Overall, the track opposes much of the stereotypes associated with the genre that the artist usually is involved in. He talks about aspirations and future aims, an appealing message towards antisocial youths who find it hard to see a future for themselves, which is why we agreed on this track as we can relate and will likely contribute ideas and thoughts to make this production a positive, fun and successful as "Dreamsville"
